Heyo K. Kroemer

Chief Executive Officer, Charité 

Heyo K. Kroemer is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany.

Heyo was appointed Charité’s Chief Executive Officer in 2019 and has been part of the European Univeristy Hospital Alliance’s (EUHA) executive board since then. He has extensive experience from his leading academic roles, including Dean and Scientific Director at the University of Greifswald. Furthermore, Heyo was appointed President of the German Association of Medical Faculties in 2012, a position he held until 2019. During this time, he was both Dean and Chairman of the Board of the University of Göttingen’s Medical Centre.

Heyo is a pharmacologist by trade. His research focuses on drug metabolism and transport, cardioactive substances and cytostatics, and improving drug targeting. Additionally, he is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, of the National Academy of Science and Engineering and of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Kroemer chaired the Federal Government’s Corona Expert Council from 2021 to 2023, and until 2025 the Expert Council ‘Health and Resilience’.
